Support and FAQ

Last updated: June 21, 2026

Welcome to Emam Support. Emam (also shown as Emam App or Emam AI, the same product) is your Islamic companion app. We are here to help you get the most out of it, whether you are setting up prayer-time alerts, practicing Tajweed, following a live khutbah translation, or asking the Dua AI for guidance. This page explains how to reach our team and answers the questions we hear most often.

If you cannot find an answer below, please reach out. We read every message and we genuinely want to help you have a smooth, beneficial experience with Emam. Our website is emam.ai, and our support mailbox is support@emamapp.com.

How to get help

There are two easy ways to reach the Emam team.

In-app live chat: Open the app and go to Account, then Help and Support. This opens our live chat, which is provided by Crisp. You need to be signed in to use live chat so we can follow up with you. This is the fastest way to reach us.

Email: You can also write to us at support@emamapp.com at any time, from any device, signed in or not. This is the only support email address we use.

Response time: We usually reply within 1 to 2 business days. During busy periods it may take a little longer, but we read every message and we will get back to you.

Do I need an account to use Emam?

No. Emam supports guest mode, and most features work without an account, including prayer times, Qibla direction, dhikr, and more.

Some features do require signing in. For example, posting to the Global Dua Board requires an account so the community stays accountable and moderated.

You can create an account using email and password (with email verification), Google Sign-In, or Apple Sign-In. Signing in lets you save your profile, sync your details, and use community features.

How are prayer times calculated and why might they differ?

Emam uses your device location to calculate accurate prayer times and fasting times for where you are. Your coordinates are sent to the Emam backend (pathway.emam.ai), which computes the schedule. We use reasonable safeguards to protect data in transit.

Prayer times can differ from your local mosque or another app for a few normal reasons: the calculation method and angles used can vary by region and school, your exact location and elevation matter, and some communities round times or follow a local committee. None of these means a time is wrong; they are simply different conventions.

If your times look far off, it is usually a location permission issue. Make sure Emam has permission to access your location and that location services are turned on for your device.

How does the Live Khutbah Translator work and which languages are supported?

The Live Khutbah Translator listens to an Arabic sermon through your microphone and streams the audio to the Emam backend (pathway.emam.ai) in real time. The backend transcribes the Arabic and translates it into your chosen language, with an optional text-to-speech voice so you can listen as well as read.

More than 20 languages are supported. You choose your translation language inside the feature.

Please note this is AI-assisted live translation. It may be imperfect or inaccurate, and it is not a substitute for understanding directly from a qualified speaker or scholar. Please verify anything important against authentic sources.

Is my microphone audio recorded or stored?

Microphone access is only used for features you actively start, mainly Tajweed practice and the Live Khutbah Translator. In both cases the audio is streamed over a WebSocket to the Emam backend (pathway.emam.ai) so the AI can transcribe and give feedback or translation in real time. We apply reasonable safeguards to this data, though no method of transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

There is one exception you control directly: in Tajweed practice you may choose to record and upload a short voice sample (sometimes called a voice clone). That sample is cached locally on your device.

Voice audio is sensitive data. If you have questions about your audio data or want it removed, contact support@emamapp.com. For full details on how we handle voice and other data, please see our Privacy Policy.

How accurate is the Dua AI and is it a religious ruling?

Dua AI lets you describe a situation in your own words. The text you submit is sent to the Emam backend (pathway.emam.ai), and it returns a suggested dua along with references. It is designed to help you find words and direction when you are not sure what to say.

Dua AI is AI-assisted and may be imperfect or inaccurate. It is not a fatwa and not a religious ruling. Please verify anything it returns against authentic sources, and for matters of religious rulings consult a qualified scholar. The same applies to our scholarly insights, daily inspiration, Islamic news, and khutbah summaries, which are also AI-assisted or curated.

How is Zakat calculated?

You enter your financial inputs, such as your assets and liabilities, into the Zakat calculator. These inputs are sent to the Emam backend (pathway.emam.ai), where the calculation is performed using live nisab rates.

The Zakat calculator is informational only. It is not financial, tax, or religious advice. Because individual circumstances vary, we encourage you to confirm your Zakat obligation with a qualified scholar or trusted authority if you are unsure.

How do I enable or disable Adhan and event notifications?

Emam can send you Adhan alerts at prayer times and reminders for Islamic events. You can turn each of these on or off independently in the app settings.

Background refresh keeps your prayer schedule up to date so alerts arrive at the right time. If you turn off background activity or notification permissions at the device level, alerts may stop arriving.

We are aware that in some cases a background process may re-enable Adhan alerts after you have turned them off, and we are working to fix this. If you find a notification turning itself back on, you can disable Emam notifications at the device level in the meantime, and please let us know at support@emamapp.com.

Why isn't my Qibla compass accurate?

The Qibla direction uses your location and your device compass sensor. If it points the wrong way, the most common causes are a compass that needs calibrating or nearby magnetic interference.

Try this: hold your phone flat and away from metal objects, magnets, or phone cases with magnets, and move it in a figure-eight motion to recalibrate the compass. Also confirm that Emam has location permission. Restarting the Qibla screen after calibrating usually fixes it.

How do I post to the Dua Board and what are the rules?

The Global Dua Board lets signed-in users post a short dua request, up to 200 characters, that is visible to all users worldwide. Others can tap Ameen and share it. To post, sign in and open the Dua Board. Because these posts are public, please do not include personal or sensitive information.

Because posts are public community content, please keep them respectful and appropriate. Content that is abusive, hateful, sexually explicit, harassing, deceptive, spam, or otherwise objectionable is not allowed. For the full rules, please see our Acceptable Use Policy.

How do I report or block content?

We are committed to keeping the Dua Board a safe and beneficial space. In-app tools to report objectionable posts and block abusive users are part of how we do this. If you do not yet see a report or block option in your version of the app, this feature is being rolled out.

In the meantime, or for anything urgent, email us at support@emamapp.com with details of the post or user. We review reports and act on objectionable content, and we aim to respond to reports within 24 hours.

How do I change my khutbah translation language?

Open the Live Khutbah Translator and select your preferred language from the language options inside the feature. You can choose from more than 20 languages, and you can switch at any time.

How do I delete my account and data?

You can delete your account from inside the app under Account or Settings, then Delete Account. For Google and Apple sign-in, you may be asked to re-authenticate first for security. The in-app deletion removes your Firestore user document and your Firebase Authentication account.

To ensure complete removal of all associated data, including your profile image in storage and server-side records such as Dua Board posts, dhikr contributions, and any voice samples, please email support@emamapp.com and request full deletion. The email route is the path that achieves full erasure, and it is also available to guests. We aim to complete deletion within 30 days of a verified request, with copies in routine backups removed on our normal backup cycle.

See our Account Deletion page and Privacy Policy for full details on what we store and what is removed.

Which devices and platforms are supported?

Emam is available for both iOS and Android phones. It is built to work across modern devices on both platforms.

Does Emam work offline?

Some features work offline once data has been loaded, such as scheduled prayer-time alerts and the Qibla compass, which uses your device sensors.

Features that rely on the Emam backend need an internet connection. These include the Live Khutbah Translator, Tajweed practice, Dua AI, the Zakat calculator, the Global Dua Board, and other AI-assisted or community content. If one of these is not loading, check your connection first.

Is Emam free?

You can download Emam and use most features, including in guest mode, without an account. If any feature has specific terms or costs, those will be shown clearly within the app before you use them.

Is Emam suitable for children?

Emam is not directed to children under 13, or under the minimum age of digital consent in your region if that age is higher. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact support@emamapp.com so we can address it.

Troubleshooting common issues

Notifications not arriving: Make sure notifications are enabled for Emam in your device settings, confirm Adhan and event reminders are turned on inside the app, and allow background refresh so prayer schedules stay current. Battery saver or do-not-disturb modes can also block alerts.

Location or permission issues: Prayer times and Qibla need location access. Turn on location services for your device and grant Emam location permission. If times look wrong, toggling location permission off and on, then reopening the app, often resolves it.

Audio or microphone permissions: Tajweed practice and the Live Khutbah Translator need microphone access. If they will not start, check that Emam has microphone permission in your device settings and that no other app is using the microphone.

Login issues: For email and password, make sure you have verified your email and that your password is correct. For Google or Apple sign-in, confirm you are using the same account as before. If you still cannot sign in, contact support@emamapp.com and we will help you recover access.

Feedback, feature requests, and bug reports

We love hearing from our community. If you have an idea to make Emam better or a feature you would like to see, send it to us through in-app live chat (Account, then Help and Support) or by email at support@emamapp.com.

Found a bug? Please tell us what happened, what you expected, your device model and operating system, and the steps to reproduce it if you can. This detail helps us fix issues faster. We also collect crash diagnostics through Firebase Crashlytics, including crash reports, stack traces, and device and OS information, to keep the app stable.

Security and privacy contact

If you have a security or privacy concern, or you want to exercise your data rights such as access, correction, or deletion, contact us at support@emamapp.com. Please describe the issue clearly so we can respond appropriately. We use reasonable safeguards to protect your data, though no system can be guaranteed completely secure.

For full details on what data we collect and how we handle it, please read our Privacy Policy.
